Neither really ties to the primary villain.Īgain, the main antagonist's entire shtick is truth and lies, it's main argument is that humans prefer a sweet lie to a harsh truth. It goes further than even P3 to showcase its theme sometimes, to a degree that might be considered too much (biggest example being the requirements for the True Ending). P4's theme is truth, whether it's a person's (Shadows and not hiding from them) or as a concept (truth is the purest goal). P4 has no real unifying theme in terms of all the shadow selves having a unifying design. It's quite literally the same explanation as for Yu and Ren, and both times it's stated explicitly by the game. In P4 and P5, it's quite clearly explained why and how the bad guys can summon a Persona. In P4 and 5 it's never explained why the bad guys can summon a persona without the ritual associated. they sort of go for a rough seven deadly sins theme for bosses but A) they don't complete the set, and B) they drop it halfway through only to bring it back at the last second.Įveryone can have their opinion, but a lot of what you're saying is straight up false Likewise P5 has the theme of rebellion, sort of, but it's loose and a lot of stuff in the game doesn't support that. it has a sort of loose theme of sexuality and gender roles and teenagers having to learn to accept the thornier parts of their identity, but then it abandons that after the party is all together and goes with a journey to the underworld theme, and neither really ties to the primary villain. in P4 and 5 it's never explained why the bad guys can summon a persona without the ritual associated. that means you don't need the evoker suicide ritual if you are already dying. for instance in P3 confronting death is how you become aware of your persona. the tarot and memento mori, it is the heart of everything in the game. all of the set piece bosses represent the inverted tarot cards in their design and even their combat tactics. it's a tightly written story which goes all-in on the theme, everything major is done in service of the theme. The gameplay is a bit jenky, it's an early attempt at the formula.īut the story and theming is the strongest of all of them. The reason why the story even feels like it got watered down is because P3P didn't even attempt to add more details on the story, VN is supposed to be descriptional, they add like 5% of internal dialogue to make clear of what is happening, but there is a huge missing opportunity not showing what is going on in MC's mind. Yes, P3P shows the story in visual novel style, but the presentation/texts can still be better than just that, there are a lot of VN that managed to present intense action scenes. You tend to ineract with the world less, and event locations in the overworld are not at all intersting to explore. Without 3D environment the gameplay is streamlined, so it's easier to miss optional dialogue. I will list some actual con of P3P nonthelss: If you play the whole game in FES it's very likely to get burnt out from gameplay, but The Answer features more of it and tbh it can be very difficult to get back into. The Answer, which is the epilogue of P3's story, are not worth 30 hours of play time, go watch a YT video or something. FES is not a cinematic game, you are not missing out much playing P3P. P3P gets the job done, and if you are not feeling the story in P3P, I assure you are not going to like it in FES. Yes some scenes are not as good without animation, but let's not pretend it happens every 5 mins. P3 is a dialogue heavy game, losing the 3D environment does not change how the story feels, because 90% of the time the characters are just talking without much actions. It has QoL changes built in, and you can NG+ into FeMC route, which I think is the intended way to experience FeMC route. If you are a new comer I recommend P3P over FES for following resason: Visual wise p3p is worse than fes but content wise it got femc route that makes up a lot of stuffs the originl route is missing (it's a bit fan servicy because of that, that's why the game recommand you to start FeMC after beating original).
